PRV subject

The Rational Grazing Voisin subject is optional for undergraduate students in Agronomy and Zootechnics, however it can be carried out by anyone using the isolated discipline system.

The content taught in classes is:

History, importance and development of PRV in Brazil and in the World. Pastoral soil and its relations with plants and animals. Biocenosis. Principles of plant physiology applied to the rational management of pastures. The growth of pastures and the quality of forage produced. Ingestion. The grazing behavior of the main herbivorous species and their relationship with pasture consumption and use. The main forage species and their use in the PRV. The universal laws of Voisin Rational Pastoring. Division of the area: principles and needs. Hydraulics and landscaping. PRV project.

The course has the following objectives:

Provide the student with the instruments (scientific-technological information and critical analysis skills) that enable him / her to:
a) understand the fundamentals of the evolution of the pastoral ecosystem;
b) understand the basic concepts of pasture agroecological management;
c) understand the basic concepts of planning, elaboration and analysis of Voisin Rational Grazing projects;
d) become familiar with the technical-scientific literature in the area;

Students carry out the elaboration of a basic livestock project of Voisin Rational Pastoring, carried out in groups with up to three members. The basic PRV project should include: project background, market study, project design and objectives, project technique, division of area and fences, basic hydraulic design and forage plan. Each subproject will consist of a plan and a descriptive memorial with an inventory of the materials to be used.
